The SCHEELS Player of the Month award recognizes an athlete who demonstrates outstanding sportsmanship, effort, leadership, and positive attitude both on and off the field.

Nomination Criteria – Bruce Brown Criteria

Nominations should be based on the Bruce Brown Criteria, which emphasize character, effort, and team-first values over statistics alone. Athletes do not need to be the top scorer or most skilled player to be nominated.

1. Effort & Hustle

• Consistently gives maximum effort in practices and games
• Demonstrates determination, resilience, and a strong work ethic
• Never gives up, regardless of score or outcome

2. Sportsmanship & Integrity

• Treats teammates, opponents, officials, and coaches with respect
• Demonstrates honesty, fairness, and self-control
• Represents the team, club, and community positively

3. Team-First Attitude

• Puts team success above personal recognition
• Encourages and supports teammates
• Willingly accepts any role needed for the team

4. Leadership & Influence

• Leads by example through actions and attitude
• Positively influences teammates on and off the field
• Demonstrates accountability and responsibility

5. Positive Attitude & Coachability

• Maintains a positive mindset during challenges
• Responds well to feedback and instruction
• Shows continuous improvement and willingness to learn
